In this week’s blog, I would like to discuss ways in which we can serve others. This blog was inspired by my own personal search for how I can serve others better.
See, I have this strong desire to serve in a way that is truly, helpful and will inspire others to heal or live their lives as healthy and happy as they can.
Thus, my research this week went into the question, What are ways in which I can serve better? If you would like to see what I discovered then stick around and read on.
My research started with the most common way that I have seen people served.
Let me start off with what does service mean? According to the Dictionary, it means, the action of helping or doing work for someone.
This brings me to the first, way to serve that I would discuss,
Monetarily –
This is simply dealing with helping through money. With this method of service, I have seen people serve others in two different ways
- By giving the other person money to resolve the problem which they face.
- To show others how to make the money they need to resolve their problem.
I find this is one of the most common ways people need help. I have also found through my own experience that it is very rare that you can make money without spending money or at least being willing to trade something for it, such as time.
I have found that all though giving is good, doing it too often with certain people can become a bad thing and can honestly do more harm than good, so It is something I have to be cautious of and something you might want to think about if you seem you are giving a lot of money to one person or consistently helping someone out.
I find that the best way to serve in this way is to donate to charitable causes as it is far more likely it will truly help a person/people in need.
Another way we can serve is through,
Emotional support –
This is one of the most common ways that I chose to serve others. I find that supporting people in this way is much more fulfilling for me and is beneficial to both parties which are, how I like to do things. I always aim for the greatest number of people to be benefited from anything that I might do.
I find that if you just take the time to listen to others with open ears and without judgment you can serve them in a very helpful and meaningful way. In so many cases people just want to be heard, understood, and accepted.
This is really, all emotional help is, a shoulder to cry on, open ears to listen, and a dash of compassion or understanding.
Mental support –
This is also another great way to serve others and one that I seem to use more and more as I go along this journey of mine, as it is all about asking questions and offering new perspectives or mindsets.
This is a method of service that you can link with emotional support as well and it seems to work wonderfully and again is beneficial to both parties.
Truly, all that is required of you is to ask questions, and based on their answers you can offer a new perspective if appropriate. This will guide them toward the answers that they need and the resolutions that they require and that will serve them best.
Physically support –
Here is the way that most people actually consider service. This method requires us as individuals to pitch in and do the work. This will require you to get involved and physically help people in one way or another.
You see this method is used a lot more when you are involved with groups or organizations rather than with your average joe blow or jane doe. Although I guess you helping out a friend from time to time is a way to use this method of service as well.
I find that it is a lot harder to serve others in this way as lives get busy and it becomes hard to take the time to help others out in this way. Although if you can make the time it can be very rewarding again to both parties.
Lending
This is the final way of service that I will discuss today. Lending is a way of service, you will find it more common between friends and family than in any other way but it is a way to serve others.
To allow people to borrow things of yours that will help them in some way is actually helping them out which means it is in fact service.
I am sure most people would not consider this a service but anything that is helping someone out whether it is physical, emotional, mental, financial, or spiritual is a service, as it will require you to give something away that will be helping another person in some way.
Now, as I close today I hope you have a better understanding of how to serve others and that as you serve others you too with finding some level of fulfillment in it.
I truly hope you enjoyed this blog and if you would like to read more please feel free to scroll through the menu above.
Until next time, Namaste
