Welcome back, everyone, this week, I thought I would talk about how we can improve concentration. But unfortunately, we all seem to have to deal with this issue.

So many of us nowadays have a monkey mind jumping from one thing to another, barely remembering anything we are meant to in our day.

If you find that you struggle with a lack of concentration and would like to learn a few ways to improve upon this skill, then keep reading.

As always, let’s start by asking a question.

What causes a lack of concentration?

In most cases, it is something as simple as lack of sleep, being hungry, or being overwhelmed or stressed. However, in other cases, it could be a side effect of something more severe such as a syndrome or disease that would require the supervision of a doctor and likely medication.

For today’s purposes, I will be giving you ways to improve upon the basic loss of concentration due to stress or lack of sleep.

The first way of the five that I will mention is mediation.

Meditation:

This is something you will see me mentioning a lot in my blogs. Mediation is one of the best ways to build upon the skill of concentration and mindfulness.

It does not take much time each day to see significant improvement; only ten to fifteen minutes will do.  Another thing to note is it can be done in a way that will fit your schedule or preferred style; you can read more about many different kinds of mediation.

The second way I will mention to improve concentration is with brain games; believe it or not, this is a fun and helpful improvement method.

Brain Games:

It might be funny to think that games could help with concentration, but it helps build cognition and focus as you have to think to answer the questions or solve the puzzles. It is essential that you understand I am not talking about any game as not all games require you to use your brain.

The kind of games you should be playing or will see the most improvement with would be jigsaw puzzles, sudoku, crossword puzzles, or some brain teaser game.

You can find these games by downloading an app to your phone or purchasing a book from Amazon or your local book store.

Playing these games for thirty minutes to an hour daily will work wonders for your concentration levels.

Proper Sleep:

Now I think we all know the importance of getting the proper amount of sleep and that it is recommended that you get between seven to nine hours a night or day, depending on when you sleep.

Although, life can be overly demanding and can rob you of the opportunity to have this level of sleep. If you are one of those who can not take the time to sleep a proper amount of hours, this is likely the root of the problem you are facing, and these other suggestions might work to offset the result, but they will never adequately substitute for the lost sleep.

If you lose sleep because your mind is overly active due to stress or worry, it helps to exercise regularly.

Regular Exercise:

This is also something I talk a lot about throughout my blogs. Regular exercise will not only help you use up excess energy, but it also raises your endorphins which raises your ability to focus and concentrate throughout the day.

There is no downside to making exercise a part of your daily routine; in truth, it will help you in so many ways, all of which are positive. Again it does not require much time, just fifteen to thirty minutes a day, and you will see positive results.

Take A Break:

This is probably one of the simplest things you can do when you find your mind drifting or jumping all over the place. Sometimes all you will need to do is stand up and shake things out, get a drink, some food, or take a bathroom break.

By walking around, you will wake yourself up and regain a certain level of focus so that you can begin again with a new concentration level when you return to what you are doing.

Final Thoughts:

Another way that many of these suggestions will help you is by reducing your stress which will in its own right help your concentration and overall well-being. As always, I hope you take the time to try one or more of these suggestions and that you find them truly helpful.

If you would like to share your thoughts about this blog or other things people could try to improve their concentration, please do so in the comment section below.

Until next week, Namaste.
