Welcome back, everyone. This week I want to discuss how to start having fun with your nutrition. You have likely never thought about having fun regarding food, yet if you stopped and thought about it, you might be surprised by what you come up with.
This week I would like to discuss ways that you can start having a little or maybe a lot of fun with your nutrition. If you need to know what I am talking about, spend some time with me, and I will explain. Now if you are ready, let’s take this next step together toward becoming positively improved.
Creativity
One of the best ways to start having fun is to take a little time to let your imagination flow freely so that your creativity juices begin to flow. It is incredible what we can come up with when we just let our brains for is to free flow mode.
Understand, however, you might have to keep this creative flow on topic, as it might expand to other areas of your life, which is good, but you might want to put a pin in those thoughts in order to make progress in the area of nutrition.
Something I thought of when I first started my nutrition journey was making food that I really love when I went to restaurants, but only those foods that I knew were healthy. Then that expanded to making that not-so-healthy food that I loved a little healthier.
These are a couple of the plethora of ideas that you could try if you dedicated some time to being creative. I encourage you to try and see what you come up with.
Experimentation
Something else I love doing is trying new food. Have you ever seen something that looks good? Or smell something that smells bad but looks good? If so, you will understand how experimentation could be fun.
Have you ever made food and pretended for a moment that you were judging the chef’s presentation, taste, and smell of the food prepared? If not, try it. By doing things like this, you are allowing yourself to try new food and judge it from an objective perspective.
By doing this, you keep an open mind about adding new or healthier food to your menu or daily diet. It also allows you to have a little fun as you will let yourself experiment and pretend just like you were a child.
Making food together
Something else that I love doing is making food with people I really enjoy being around or even making food with people I am trying to get to know. There is something to be said about sharing the experience of making a good meal with someone you enjoy being around.
One of the best benefits of doing this, other than having some help and building new or stronger connections, is that if you are making a healthy meal with someone who does not usually like to eat healthy foods or just does not have a nutritious diet, you have the opportunity to open those persons mind to making a shift provided that what you are making is something that they might enjoy.
If you are cooking with your children, you have the added benefit of teaching them how to cook and the peace of mind of knowing that you are teaching them how to eat healthy foods, which will help them always be at their best. If this is not something you already do, I would encourage you to try it. It really can be so much fun.
Make it playful
Now for those of you who do not have anyone to cook with, don’t lose hope because you too can have loads of fun while preparing a meal if you put on your favorite music and break into your jam while preparing a meal.
One of my favorite things to do when cooking alone is dance and while listening to my favorite music. Heck, I even do this while shopping for food. I can not tell you how many times I have gotten a smile from someone who watches me break out into song and dance while picking out my favorite tomato sauce. But, of course, I am not saying you must go this far with your playfulness.
Simply allowing yourself to be open to the idea of being playful when it comes to preparing your food or letting yourself have fun while eating your food will improve the overall experience every time. Allow your food to help you in every way it can without using it to feed unhealthy dependencies.
Get excited
One of the best ways to start making healthy nutrition choices or transforming from unhealthy food to healthier ones is to get excited. When we are enthusiastic about something, it becomes much easier to achieve.
If you are at a stage in your health journey where you just want to add some new food, get excited about trying new foods, and be open-minded about trying new things, even these things you never thought you would ever try.
Enthusiasm is a real game-changer if you let it be. So it at least is worth a try. Don’t you think?
Final thoughts
As I come to the close of this week’s newsletter. Let me end with the thought that having fun when it comes to your nutrition is an essential key that most people miss. In so many cases, people just eat because they are hungry. Forgetting entirely how much fun mealtime was when they were children, and they would pretend and play.
When it comes to nutrition, there really needs to be a balance between the wise and discerning adult in making the right food choice and the inner child’s playfulness so that we can enjoy the whole buying experience, preparing and consuming the food. So please try these suggestions and see how they work for you.
I hope you found this information helpful and that you share this information with anyone you think could put these suggestions to work. I would love to read any comments you would like to share. Again thank you so much for taking this next step toward positively improving with me. Until next week. Namaste.
