Welcome back, everyone. This week’s newsletter will cover the five areas we all need to develop to see growth. If you are like me and have been on a personal development journey, then much of this week’s information will only serve as a refresher.
However, the information is valuable if you are new to the personal development journey. No matter if you are here to learn or just hang out, stick with me as I take this next step toward becoming positively improved.
Growth what is it –
According to the dictionary – Growth is the irreversible increase of an organism’s size over a given period. It may also be defined as one of the characteristics of a living thing. In biology, “biological growth” is associated with progressive development. An organism’s growth may go on throughout its life or end when that species is fully mature. Where personal growth is a process of developing new skills, attitudes, actions, or reactions that can positively impact your life and increase your overall well-being, for the purpose of this newsletter, I will be referring to personal growth and the development of your relationships with yourself, others, nature and the world around you.
Physical Growth –
A healthy body nourishes a healthy mind. There’s a link between your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. This personal development aspect focuses on physical health, like nutrition, sleep, exercise, and movement. When nourishing your physical self, your mind is likely reaping those benefits.
The ideal goal for your physical health is to get 6 to 8 hours of sleep each day and take 30 minutes out of your day to exercise. To eat a healthy diet and portions that your body can digest easily and, of course, to take in half your body weight in non-alcoholic and preferably non-caffeinated fluids. When this goal is met, you have reached the required level of perfect health. However, we always have at least a little room for improvement. What do you think?
Mental Growth –
Mental growth is when an individual gains new knowledge through academics or experience. As we gain new knowledge, we expand our brain size to create new neural pathways to retain this new knowledge.
The idea here is to expand your knowledge to make your life and you more effective and efficient. For example, if you wanted to learn how to do one particular thing like for instance, say sailing. You would read books and watch videos, even take courses to learn how to do this, and once you had fundamental world knowledge, you would quickly move to gain experience. With this new knowledge and expertise, you would reach the goal of learning and ultimately putting yourself in the position to teach others how to sail.
This is what mental growth is all about, but when it comes to personal development, the skills, knowledge, and experiences you gain revolve around the topic of personal development. Thus, your mental growth would allow you to take a step toward becoming a much more efficient person in one way or another.
Emotional Growth –
Emotional intelligence is the ability to understand feelings. Beyond feelings, it’s understanding how those feelings shape our thoughts and actions. By understanding thoughts, actions, emotions, and feelings, you will also learn how to navigate people and anything they say or do toward you or in some way that could affect your life.
You will understand that most things are simply a reflection of perception, and .most perceptions are based on illusions, irrational beliefs, or fears. The idea here is to learn how to detach but remain a person of character in every way possible. We are meant to see all sides of the situations we face so that we can navigate and solve than appropriately, which becomes much more challenging if you do not learn to distance yourself from your emotions.
Spiritual Growth –
Spirituality means investing in a deeper understanding of yourself in the world around you. It is always when you build a relationship based on trust with the divine source. The way I have created this relationship is to gain knowledge on spiritual growth, along with meditation and regular communication through prayer and journal writing.
Through spiritual growth, we not only build a relationship with the divine but a more resilient and peaceful relationship with ourselves as we step into our authenticity, and through the steps to find and claim this authenticity, you will also find peace.
Social Growth –
relationships are also a must-have for any personal development. After all, self-improvement is not a solitary pursuit. Humans are social creatures. We need that connection to learn and grow.
And from social connections, we gain essential skills. Like communication skills, problem-solving, relationship-building, and the ability to receive and give feedback. We also learn from those around us and their experiences.
The idea is to become a person that can adapt to any social environment with ease and emotional comfort. When you can get here, you have reached your fullest potential socially and, in most cases, will make friends and associates with minimal effort.
Final Thoughts –
As I close this week’s newsletter, let me leave you with some final words. Society dictates an acceptable level of achievement in each of these areas. Ultimately, you decide what level of personal growth you want to reach.
You decide who and how you act, and only you can choose to be molded into how you will be. You must develop each of these areas to be the person you want to be and impact others’ lives in a way that will also serve them best.
As I close, I hope you found usefulness in this information. If you know someone who could benefit from this information, please share this with them. As always, thank you for taking the time to take this next step toward becoming positively improved. Until next week. Namaste.
