Welcome back, everyone. This week, there is no newsletter. I have decided to end this year with a short but to-the-point heart-to-heart talk about New Year resolutions, goals, and dreams that we should all take the time to put forth the genuine effort to achieve.
It never fails that someone I know makes all these plans and is motivated at the beginning of the year. However, despite the patterns they have displayed throughout their history, they only partially understand that they shouldn’t get themselves pumped up to achieve those goals only to fizzle out when things get hard, and they will enviably get hard. Especially when the real test of their perseverance comes when they least expect it. They will lose their motivation if they are not prepared. And likely, they will start to get overwhelmed with themselves and life in general.
This is usually the point that people start to give up on the idea of reaching their goals or when they put those dreams back on the shelf for another time. I have often wondered why we do these kinds of things. All that comes from this behavior is disappointment and self-defeating.
Why do we not approach our New Year’s resolutions from an experimental approach where we know we may not achieve the goal now? We also understand that we can achieve our dreams with effort and patience.
Of course, you will still need a practical and doable plan to execute and achieve, but you also need those backup plans that catch you or push you forward when you start to give up.
It is essential to point out that no matter how much you plan and how motivated you might be, there will always be more than one thing that will go wrong or will challenge and test you.
You must approach any goal or New Year’s resolution with more than hopeful thinking and motivation. And even though you have a plan, things will be challenging to achieve. You will still have to put forth effort, even if only a little bit.
Here, at positively improved the motto: if in doubt, don’t. This means that if you cannot commit to the goal one hundred percent, it will only set you up to fail. Nothing good will come from this, and you will likely be left with regrets and bucketloads of disappointment.
As well as take that set into the new year, my hope for each of you is to find every ounce of the improvement you seek. Be good to yourself and set realistic and attainable goals.
As always, I am so grateful to you all for joining me every week to take the next step toward becoming positively improved.
I hope you all have a spectacular New Year celebration and that the year to come is the best one yet for each of us. Until next week, namaste.
