Welcome, back, everyone. This week I would like to discuss five of the best ways to train your brain to focus better. As I have discussed in previous blog articles, it can take time to focus on the present moment for various reasons, whether due to daily stressors or simply because you are too busy with daily demands and tasks.
Most of us would like nothing more than to be able to drown everything else out, even if only for a second, to focus on the moment, or to complete a task that seems to be taking far too long to complete. However, most people need help to achieve this goal of focus or flow in the present moment.
Thus, this week I will give five ways to train your brain to remain focused on the tasks in front of you, allowing things to flow more smoothly and be more productive throughout your day. If you are interested in learning how to train your brain to focus better, please stay with me as we take our next step toward becoming positively improved.
Be mindful:
One of the best ways to bring your mind to a state of focus is to be mindful. There are several ways to allow yourself to be mindful. You might be advised to wear a rubberband in many different forms of therapy. Every time your mind strays off task, or you are triggered emotionally, you simply snap the rubberband to bring you back into the moment.
You could allow yourself to be in a constant state of reflection, which will also allow you to remain mindful of your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and actions throughout your day. In this state of reflection and mindfulness, you will become skilled with time and practice with self-correcting and a constant state of focus and flow.
However, for those who struggle with reflection and do not want to be constantly snapping themselves on the wrist, I suggest meditation for at least 10 minutes at least once a day. In most cases, if you start your day off with 10 minutes of meditation and the setting of your intentions for the day, it will start you off on the right track, and as long as you do not have too many distractions, you should find it to be easier to focus throughout your day.
Eliminate distractions:
Another helpful way to aid yourself in focusing on the present moment is to eliminate your daily distractions as much, if not all, as possible. Now as I write this, I acknowledge that in many people’s lives, distraction is just how things are.
However, It should be acknowledged by you, the reader, that as long as you have a lot of distractions, you are likely setting yourself up to always be distracted, and nothing else you read in this article will likely work for you. In today’s age, it is hard not to get caught up in all the drama, but if you want to be more focused and productive in your present moment, you will have to save all the drama for after your tasks and work are done. I promise you that once you have eliminated as many distractions as possible, you will find it so much easier to focus on the present moment.
Take short breaks:
Something else you can do throughout your day is to take breaks. They do not have to be long thirty-minute to hour breaks. They could be as short as five or ten minutes. Just long enough to stand up, walk around and stretch a little. Take in some air or go to the bathroom, grab a drink, and have a snack before returning to your desk or current task.
The purpose of these breaks is to give your brain a moment of rest and then to reset to get back on task. Studies have proven that the average person can only focus on a task for fifteen to twenty minutes before their mind begins to wander.
Thus, staying on target and focusing on taking mini breaks as often as possible throughout your day is helpful.
Spend time in nature:
Believe it or not, nurture can help you in so many ways regarding focus and flow. But, again, as we are all a part of this earth when we are in nature, we will naturally absorb the calming healing energy that Gaia provides us when we partake of her presents.
You do not need to necessarily. Take a weekend at a cabin away from society, or take some kind of nature hick to take in this energy. You could sit on your front porch or on your balcony and listen to the birds and the wind blowing. Or you could watch the trees.
You could go for a walk in the park or swing on the swings at that park and let your stress and worries melt away. You will find that after about thirty minutes with Gaia, you will feel calmer and more centered, which will aid you immensely with your ability to focus and stay in your present moments.
Care for yourself:
Now, caring for yourself is one of the most important ways to aid yourself in training your brain to focus. If you are not sleeping at least six to eight hours a day, drinking at least half your body weight in fluids, or eating a healthy diet, you have already set yourself up to make the task of focus and flow feel nearly impossible.
Although there is more than just these things involved with self-care, these are the basics to aid with focus and mental clarity. Suppose you are struggling to focus and do not know why. Then take a moment and do a self-assessment. Ask yourself if you are meeting your body’s requirements. In more cases than not, one of the most significant factors for someone not being able to focus or find flow in their present moment is because they do not give their body the fuel it needs to be able to achieve this goal.
Final words
Now as I come to the close of our discussion this week, allow me to leave you with some final words of wisdom if you can make the time to be mindful of your thoughts, feeling, and actions. You can eliminate as many distractions as possible, spend a little time with nature each week or, even better, each day, and take the time to care for yourself in the ways your body requires. Then I promise you will find it much easier to focus and stay in your present moment.
I would be comfortable betting that you would find flow and a state of peace and balance throughout your day. This is why I encourage you to try each of these steps that will undoubtedly lead you to a state of being positively improved.
